Cardo is born from material experimentation and explores new ways of creating through natural fibres, artisanal techniques and biomaterials.

It begins with a simple question: how can we continue creating without disconnecting ourselves from the materials, territories and people that make the objects we use possible?

Since then, Cardo has become an ongoing research project into wool, its possibilities and its relationship with contemporary design.

Working with what already exists

Cardo’s pieces are developed mainly from materials considered waste or with very low industrial demand.

The main material is Ripollesa sheep wool, a breed native to Catalonia whose fibre currently has very little demand within the textile industry. Cardo seeks to restore value to this material, making use of its natural qualities and exploring everything it can still become.

The wool is sourced directly from Catalan shepherds, without intermediaries, creating a clear, simple and transparent supply chain:

sheep > shepherd > cardo

Why wool?

Wool can be transformed in many ways: spun, knitted, felted and interwoven.

It is warm, insulating, breathable, resistant and durable. Above all, it is a natural and biodegradable material, capable of returning to the natural cycle at the end of its life.

Cardo is interested in working with a material that has accompanied humanity for thousands of years and that, despite this, still holds countless possibilities to be explored.

Creation

Each Cardo piece is handmade on a small scale.

By not working with external workshops, Cardo takes part directly in every stage of the process: from material research and development to the construction and finishing of each garment.

The process does not necessarily begin with a fully defined shape. The material guides the design and partially determines the silhouettes, textures and possibilities that emerge.

The pieces are developed in dialogue with the body. They are tested, modified and constructed as the material reveals its own characteristics.

Biological, biodegradable, compostable, and renewable.
